Forget-Me-Nots: The Split Gallery

21 June - 16 July 2023

As time passes, memories fade, becoming muddled as they intertwine and overlap.

Forgetmenots explores these muddied waters of memory, our recollections, and the

truths they may or may not contain. We believe what we have remembered,

attaching a misplaced but meaningful certainty to these false narratives, they

become confabulations.

As the veil of reminiscence is gently lifted, a profound tapestry of fragmented

recollections emerges. Once cherished and revered, these fragile echoes of the past

now wander adrift, lost amidst the relentless current of time. Their essence fades,

intertwining with other phantoms, like tattered remnants of a forgotten puzzle.

Within the disarray, they yearn to find their rightful place, to rediscover coherence.

Yet, a warm melancholic truth casts a sombre light upon our perception.

Our memories, once believed to be untarnished reflections of our being, reveal

themselves as intricate illusions. They are woven from threads borrowed from

others, embellished with whispered tales of our subconscious desires.

These memories become the lenses through which we attempt to fathom the

enigma of our existence, illuminating pivotal chapters adorned with the hues of our

individuality. But still we navigate this maze of shadows, caught in an

unconscious dance.

In this exhibition of recollections, we seek to distil truth from the

mists of uncertainty. Moments we hold close to our hearts beckon

us to decipher their authenticity. Where does it dwell within the

recesses of our remembrance? We ponder which memories are

most vulnerable to slipping through our grasp. And we consider

which fragments we hold tightest, as they transform into somthing

new. Despite the encroachment of their authenticity, we cherish

these altered memories for the profound emotionalsignificance

they carry.

Within this exploration lies the placement of value in the

ever-shifing landscape of our remembered past. It is an invitation to

reflect, to embrace the beauty of ourimperfect memories, and to

honour the emotional weight they can bear, even as they evolve and

transform.
